Programs
Location: Veterans Athletic Complex – Soccer Fields Date & Time: Sunday, June 7, 2026 • 2–4:30 PM Ages: Family Event – All Ages Fee: $30 per kite (must register for each kite, groups can design one kite together)
Discover the art and tradition of Southeast Asian singing kites, beautifully crafted to create musical tones as they glide through the sky. The pitch and sound change with wind speed and the materials used, making each kite a unique flying instrument.
During this hands on workshop, families will receive all the supplies needed to design and decorate a blank kite. Local pro kiters will be on-site to share building tips, demonstrate flying techniques, and help you create something truly special. It’s a perfect way to prepare for Grand Island’s June Kite Festival.
This program is presented in partnership with the Friends of the Grand Island Parks and is connected to the “Moments with Jayne” initiative, inspired by a book housed in the Stolley Garden Library.
***** Must be signed up by May 30th to pick up your kite at the Library.**** Optional Meeting: We will also be available at the Grand Island Public Library to meet with people who would like to see (or take home) the kite/ marker set. This will be to give design tips so that you can prepare before the event takes place. The optional meeting will last less than 1/2 hour, starting at 1:15 on Sunday, May 31.
